On The Ropes

from Majestic by Thad Foster

about

I would not have survived my fight with cancer without this song and it's self reaffirming encouragement to keep my heart filled with a warrior's song.

I heard some news the other day
It brought tears to my eyes
They’re talking Gleason score and "stage"
It was just too much to analyze
Words like cure, control and palliative care
My heart beating, my mind racing
I was feeling…cold, alone and scared

I'm learning the ropes, preparing to fight
I won't go quietly into the night
Got a lot to do and songs to sing
I'll bob and weave, step in and swing
Feinting left as I slip the first punch
Ready for pain and feeling that crunch
Dancing to the right, throwin' one of my own
I'll go for the knockout and head on home
Yeah, I still got dreams and I still got hopes
My comeback starts right now, though I'm on the ropes

Today I'm walking tall and strong
They say that's what it takes
My heart is filled with a warrior’s song
Yes, I’m alive and wide awake
Some vicious hooks came in like the "old one-two"
Took a pounding, I’m rebounding
I’ll go the distance like a champion learns to do

I'm learning the ropes, preparing to fight
I won't go quietly into the night
Got a lot to do and songs to sing
I'll bob and weave, step in and swing
Feinting left as I slip the first punch
Ready for pain and feeling that crunch
Dancing to the right, throwin' one of my own
I'll go for the knockout and head on home
Yeah, I still got dreams and I still got hopes
My comeback starts right now, though I'm on the ropes

Ain't gonna' rest, or drop down to one knee
I'm counterpunching with that XRT

I'm learning the ropes, preparing to fight
I won't go quietly into the night
Got a lot to do and songs to sing
I'll bob and weave, step in and swing
Feinting left as I slip the first punch
Ready for pain and feeling that crunch
Dancing to the right, throwin' one of my own
I'll go for the knockout and head on home
Yeah, I still got dreams and I still got hopes
My comeback starts right now, though I'm on the ropes
