My Daddy's Church

from Majestic by Thad Foster

/

about

Throughout my childhood my father taught me all about the plants, animals and secrets that reside in the desert. As an adult I share that same love, respect and appreciation for it. This song is for him because the desert was, is and will always be, my daddy's church!

lyrics

My Daddy's Church
©2018 Judy Klass(ASCAP)/Thad Foster(BMI)

He said, “Son, stop, look and listen, you can hear the desert speaking
I came here as a teen, I found what I wasn't seeking
I could feel God in the rocks and in the clean, hot desert sand
In the Colorado River I saw his loving hand”

As I've travelled the world
I've heard the oceans roar
I've seen great cities and towns
and all the different kinds of people they're built for
No matter where I go
What I see, where I search
Ain't no place in any land
that's half as grand
As my daddy's church

A Mesquite tree for a pulpit, Ocotillos praising on a ledge
Paloverdes for the choir, DOWN by the river’s edge
All the Beaver Tail in bloom, I smell the Greasewood and the Sage
A big yellow moon rising as we turn another page

Yes, I've travelled the world
I've heard the oceans roar
I've seen great cities and towns
and all the different kinds of people they're built for
No matter where I go
What I see, where I search
Ain't no place in any land
that's half as grand
As my daddy's church

Oh, it’s like the roof of a cathedral, that big Mojave sky
Saguaro and cholla fill the pews, as a little cactus wren begins to testify

I've travelled the world
I've heard the oceans roar
I've seen great cities and towns
and all the different kinds of people they're built for
No matter where I go
What I see, where I search
Ain't no place in any land
that's half as grand
As my daddy's church
